The Bright Sheng collection includes correspondence; manuscript, printed and published versions of his scores; published and unpublished recordings of his works; interviews; programs and reviews featuring his work, and work from his students; videotapes and DVDs of interviews, appearances, and performances; also background on research and field work in China as part of the Silk Road Project, including an audio diary from 2000, and field recordings of Chinese folk music.

Bright Sheng, composer, conductor, pianist, ethnomusicologist and Leonard Bernstein Distinguished University Professor of Music at the University of Michigan, was born in China in 1955.
